This exhibition
was held in honour of the centennial birthday of Eugene Dubois and was
at the same time the last large exhibition of the "Nationaal Natuurhistorisch
Museum" before its relocation from the old buildings in Leiden to
a newly build complex. Eugene Dubois was an anthropologist who discovered parts of a skeleton in the former Dutch East-Indies of which he believed it was the "missing link" between primates and modern man. The exhibition was located in the "Pesthuis" in Leiden. This building consists of 8 rooms, following a square layout with a total of approx. 1100 square meters. It appeared to be possible to divide the story of Dubois in 8 segments, thus giving me, in coorporation with Isabelle Galy, the opportunity to design each room differently and according to the different stories: Room -1- Introduction and movies, Room -2- Eugene Dubois with colleagues, Room -3- The discovery, Room -4- Other theories, Room -5- Story about genealogy, Room -6- The statues, Room -7- Charles Darwin, Room -8- Educational play for children. |
