Cracker Jeans' showroom is located in the Amsterdam Confection Center. The available standard showrooms are just rectangular boxes with an entrance made of glass. The Client wanted a selling-area as large as possible, but at the same time enough space for the administration and a place to invite people. The solution was found by creating a mezzanine floor. This mezzanine floor is situated just behind the entrance, which created a very interesting and attractive view at the entrance, the "eye-catcher" of the showroom.
Besides, the reduced area under the mezzanine was the most logical location for a counter, and the showroom's full height and size became only visible when visitors passed under the mezzanine floor, thus giving a broad view on the exposed merchandise.
As the available height was limited, more height then needed should not be lost. Therefore, a steel construction has been chosen for whereby the supporting beams are incorporated in the handrail. Now the height of the mezzanine-floor is only 12cm. Instead of the traditional 25cm.
